İzmir Institute of Technology

The law proposal related to the establishment of İzmir Institute of Technology was prepared by İzmir Deputies Rıfat Serdaroğlu and Işın Çelebi and was proposed to the Presidency of the Plan and Budget Commission on 17.06.1992 as Supplementary Article 27. The establishment proposal of the Institute was accepted in the Commission and the General Assembly of the Parliament on 03.07.1992 and published in the Official Gazette dated 11.07.1992 and numbered 21281. Thus, with the Law No. 3837, our Institute consisting of "Faculty of Science", "Faculty of Engineering", "Faculty of Architecture" and "Institute of Engineering and Science" was established.

The establishment of departments within the faculties was accepted with the decision of the Higher Education Executive Board dated 22.06.1994 and numbered 94.20.1050. The opening of the departments that will provide interdisciplinary education within the Institute of Engineering and Science has been approved with the letter of the Higher Education Council dated 27.06.1994. Immediately after, on 30.06.1994, Prof.Dr. Akın Süel has been appointed.

With the letter of the Executive Board of the Higher Education Council dated 12.09.1994 and numbered 94.20.1050, it was decided for the first time to open "Computer Software" and "Urban Design" graduate programs in English and the education in English.

The Higher Education Executive Board decided to establish the Foreign Languages ​​Department of our Institute on 03.02.1995. İYTE, the 25th anniversary of the establishment 10 in Turkey "Research University" has demonstrated success in taking place. Within the scope of the mission differentiation and specialization project, 10 universities determined by YÖK as a research university according to certain criteria were announced on September 26, 2017 by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan at the Opening Ceremony of the 2017-2018 Academic Year.
