Harran University

Şanlıurfa, where Harran University is located, is one of the oldest cities of Anatolia with its history dating back eleven thousand years. Şanlıurfa, which is located in the region named Fertile Crescent in archaeological sources, has an extensive cultural accumulation since it is located at the intersection of rich Anatolian culture and Mesopotamian culture. The historical Harran City, which gave our university its name, is a city center located 44 km southeast of Şanlıurfa, which has witnessed important events in history. The main significance of Harran, which served as a capital city for Umayyads for a while, is that it has been an important science center since pre-Islam. Important studies were carried out in the fields of astronomy, medicine, mathematics, philosophy, and religion at the Harran School, which is regarded as the university of its era. Harran continues to attract attention as a tourism destination today.

Another feature of Şanlıurfa is that it is located in the center of the Southeastern Anatolia Project (GAP), one of the largest integrated regional development projects in the world. Şanlıurfa will make significant gains once this project is fully implemented. Our University to upgrade the standards of higher education and scientific research in Turkey also aims at the same time plays an extremely important mission in the success of the GAP. Elements of this mission; To lead social and cultural change, to support regional development through scientific studies, to create a platform that enables rational evaluation of the dynamics of the region.

EDUCATION

Our university, which aims to raise progressive, creative, democratic, Atatürk Principles and Revolutions that will make the country progress, aims to raise intellectual people who adopt science as a principle, aims to continuously improve and develop in education, research and practice.

As of today, the language of education is Turkish in Harran University. The courses that students will take in each semester are divided into two groups as compulsory and elective. The students are required to take the compulsory courses of the department in which they are registered. However, students who are successful in the exemption exam for courses determined by the University Senate are exempted from those courses. Two-year associate degree programs are applied in vocational high schools affiliated with Harran University, and four-year degree programs are implemented in faculties and colleges (six years of education in the Faculty of Medicine, five years of education in the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine). In addition, postgraduate and doctorate education is provided in the majors of Social Sciences, Health Sciences, and Science Institutes.
