The foundation of our university is the unit that started education in 1962 under the name of Girls' Teacher School. Giresun Girls' Teacher School was transformed into the Institute of Education in 1976 and was connected to the KTÜ Fatih Faculty of Education in 1982 as a two-year Education School. In 1992, it became a Faculty of Education under the same university.

Vocational School, which was opened under the Ministry of National Education in 1976 and connected to the KTÜ Rectorate in 1982, started its education at ten undergraduate levels in 1992 and connected to KTÜ at the undergraduate level in 1996. Tirebolu Vocational School, which was put into service in the academic year, Faculty of Science and Letters, which was founded under the Presidency of KTÜ in 1998, Şebinkarahisar Vocational School, which was founded in 1998 under the Presidency of Cumhuriyet University, Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, established in March 2003. Alucra Vocational School, which started its education and training activities in 2005 under Cumhuriyet University, established Giresun University in 2006 with the Law No. 5467 and the Cabinet Decision.
